ANTIQUE PINE STACKING STORAGE CUPBOARD OR CAMPAIGN CHEST 1850
A rare and interesting pine stacking cupboard or deed safe, usually found in solicitor's or dignitary's offices for safe keeping of documents and deeds.
Often referred to as campaign chests, military use, but seems too big for that!
The idea is to be able to grab the cupboard sections and take to safety when needed, maybe in case of fire or flood.
Not often found complete, the cupboard sections can easily be separated over time.
This is a mid 19th century example, featuring a fine moulded break front cornice, original brass escutcheons, external iron hinges, plain decorative detail and round turned feet.
Big iron carrying handles on each section.
Dove tailed construction throughout.
The cupboard is in good condition, no damage, no worm.
The paint is original on the panels, a warm butter milk shade, finely crackled, the remainder of the body has been over- painted in the original off-cream to tidy the quite worn look.
Inside the original paint remains, a Gustavian blue, overpainted again, maybe in the 1920ies with a pale sage green. The blue could be revealed entirely by scraping.
Every section has a working lock and key and is fitted with one loose shelf.
Easy to transport as it separates into the three sections.
These pieces are rare....useful in lounge, kitchen, office etc.
Dimensions:
1420mm wide
2000mm high

460mm internal depth

ANTIQUE SWEDISH KITCHEN CUPBOARD OR VAISSELLIER 1850
A particularly pleasing Swedish kitchen dresser or köksskåp, found in it's first original paint finish.
Made around 1850, in pine and grain painted subsequently to resemble oak or a finer timber.
This type of cupboard was often found in the kitchen area of a good house to hold finer pieces of china and utensils.
The detail on this dresser is sublime, the execution of the fine mouldings, cornice, dove tailed and pegged construction throughout most remarkable.
It is a country piece, so has all the attributes of styling, leather embossed escutcheons, original locks with replacement keys, hand blown original glass, country crown, etc.
The interior has been repainted a long time ago, a mellow old cream, but we dry scraped the interior door frames to show the original cobalt blue finish,..
The base cupboard is clean pine.
No damage, no replacements, no worm, a gem of a Swedish country pine antique.

ANTIQUE SWEDISH PINE SECRETAIRE IN ORIGINAL PAINT
Certainly a fantastic find, in untouched original condition, a Swedish pine secretaire, dating from the mid 19th century.
A rural piece of furniture, made to resemble the more expensive hardwood versions not affordable by the country folk.
The secretaire has the usual configuration of a lidded desk part, fitted with twelve small drawers, each sporting a hand turned brass knob, a small arched compartment between them, all painted in the original Gustavian Blue.
The lid, when opened, rests on a ledged support, so will be secure even under pressure.
The cupboard below the desk is a two door shelved storage space, painted cream .
The original paint, combining scrumbling methods and plain painted surfaces is superb.
Muted colours, minimal decoration, the striking diamond / lozenge and half pillarded design a typical feature of rural design.
The secretaire is sturdy and very heavy, all strategic parts dove tailed, down to the chunky bracketed plinth.
Locks on lid and doors are in working order with keys.
The backboards have been replaced some time ago, but are in character with the age of the piece.
To sum it up: an unusual, one-of-a-kind, original Scandinavian country piece of decorative pine furniture.

ANTIQUE PINE SECRETAIRE STYLE STORAGE CUPBOARD 1850
A most unusual and decorative pine storage cupboard or small size armoire, made to resemble a Continental Regency secretaire, commonly known as a 'Blender',
( translated ' blinder or dazzler' ) ie to represent something it is not!
This cupboard is very well constructed, built from first grade Scandinavian pine, dating from the early to mid 19th century. Usually a piece of furniture supplied to the bourgeois households, ie not rural pine..
Although the front looks very much like a secretaire, it is in fact a single door cupboard, fitted inside with a ladder system, allowing various options for shelving.
It also has a facility for a rail if needed.
The decorative detail is quite unique, I presume Louis Phillipe style, with poetic licence, half turned pillars, turrets , two applied carved mouldings and a central torchere plaque. Original lock, key and escutcheons.
Very clean to use.
It was found in original grained mahogany finish, but has been given a new, more contemporary touch, 'Pavillion Grey', Farrow and Ball.
