antique french comtoise longcase clock in original and working condition 1865

Item Ref

A rather splendid original French country longcase clock, a comtoise, made in pine.
The clock is totally genuine, ie it has the original works, original hands, original pendulum and weights, winding key and the painted case is in the original first decorative paint finish.
The clock works amazingly accurately, when properly sited and levelled, it does not loose or gain, a perfect keeper of time.
Most of these clockes were made near the Swiss border in the Franche-Comte region of France, this one seems to originate from Normandy, Brecey, as seen on the clock face.
The maker's name Fauchon fils aine ( Fauchon son, the older) is also set into the white enamel clock face, embellished with shielded Roman letters, framed in a beautiful pink.
The pressed brass clock frame is deeply ornate, following the floral theme of the painted outer case.
The pine longcase is decorated in traditional style, floral themes on grained back ground, a rural tradition.
The clock can be partially dismantled, to house the clock works and clean the intricate and heavy brass pendulum.
A seven day clock, striking a Roman chime, twice, following each other, a minute or so pause inbetween.
The clock works have been gently cleaned, all parts present.
A very nice example of a rural country clock, in good time worn condition, no pun intended, ready to tell the time for another 150 years.
