Description

Rare and ingenious, the travelling candle stick in the shape of the Brighton Bun, a forgotten English pastry...
These clever little candlesticks, used by travellers in Victorian times, often brought back from the Holy Land as souvenirs, hence the olive wood connection, are both elegant and useful.
They comprise of two drip -pan bases and two candle holders which screw into the base to form two chambersticks. When not in use the candle cups and candle snuffer are unscrewed and stored in the bases which in turn screw together to make the Brighton Bun.
Quite often the candle snuffer is missing, not so in this case!
As olive wiood is quite dry and brittle, it cracks easily, yet hard and not easy to scorch.
There are no burn marks, but a visible short crack on one of the two halves, which does not impede the function, it still screws and unscrews with ease.
A great little gem of Victorian travelliana!
