Item Ref

A rare and interesting pine stacking cupboard or deed safe, usually found in solicitor's or dignitary's offices for safe keeping of documents and deeds.
Often referred to as campaign chests, military use, but seems too big for that!
The idea is to be able to grab the cupboard sections and take to safety when needed, maybe in case of fire or flood.
Not often found complete, the cupboard sections can easily be separated over time.
This is a mid 19th century example, featuring a fine moulded break front cornice, original brass escutcheons, external iron hinges, plain decorative detail and round turned feet.
Big iron carrying handles on each section.
Dove tailed construction throughout.
The cupboard is in good condition, no damage, no worm.
The body has been over- painted in a shade matching the original off-cream to tidy the quite worn look.
Inside the original paint remains, a Gustavian blue, overpainted again, maybe in the 1920ies with a pale sage green. The blue could be revealed entirely by scraping.
Every section has a working lock and key and is fitted with one loose shelf.
Easy to transport as it separates into the three sections.
These pieces are rare....useful in lounge, kitchen, office etc.
