antique pine stacking storage cupboard 1860

Item Ref

A rare and interesting pine stacking cupboard, deed safe or campaign chest, usually found in solicitor's or dignitary's offices for safe keeping of documents and deeds.
The idea is to be able to grab the cupboard sections and take to safety when needed, maybe in the case of fire or flood.
Not often found complete, the cupboard sections can easily be separated over time.
This is a mid to late 19th century example, featuring a fine oak cornice, original embossed leather escutcheons and forged external hinges.
This is a well built cupboard, fine dividing mouldings, the doors exceptional with undulating panels in classic country style.
Interesting symmetrical design, very pleasing to the eye.
The cupboard is in excellent condition, no structural damage. All parts of this cupboard are original, apart from the bottom beading and block feet which are replacements. Some historic wood worm holes scattered around, treated and obsolete. A small amount of filler in one of the side section , middle cupboard, faux painted to match the pine, see photos 3 and 12.
Every section has a working lock and key, original catches top and bottom.
Easy to transport and easy for access as it separates into the three sections.
Stylish, understated but decorative, useful in many locations...very happy to have found this gem....
