antique victorian pine and fruitwood gnr two drawer side table 1880

Item Ref

A very lucky find, the stamp, GNR, Great Northern Railways, nearly missed on first inspection!
This two drawer table, made from chunky pine and fruitwood originates from a railway station, where is had a working life as a ticket desk.
Not unsimilar to a book press stand, sturdy legs, a construction with deep sides and back, a very thick top, to withstand the rigours of railway life.
Yet, it is nearly in perfect condition, the top clean and left un- finished ( in case it may be used as a chopping table...), the drawers in good condition, obviously the top one with cut- outs for a ticket roll..Original fruitwood knobs on both drawers.
The body has been waxed and is without repairs, replacements or worm.
A superb small item of Victorian railway heritage, nearly impossible to find, unless you visit the York railway museum..
