antique carved mirror frame in original paint 1860

Item Ref

An impressive carved hardwood mirror, dating from the middle of the 19th century.
The mellow walnut coloured frame is carved just below the base frame, with a classical decorative pattern. The rest of the frame is moulded and champhered at the edges. A plinthed base aids stability.
The colour of the timber is deep and rich, weathered with the passing of time. Remnants of ancient worn paint, pale dove grey and a pale light green on the near mirror frame are highlighting the contrast beautifully.
This mirror is quite heavy and will have to be hung securely, therefore lends itself as a dressing mirror or standing hall mirror.
Saying that, to secure to the wall, 2 very strong iron ring fittings are found on the top rail.
Certainly a statement mirror!
