antique rare mulberry farmhouse kitchen table 1840

Item Ref

Certainly the most unusual table regarding timber we have had ...
This rural farmhouse table is made from Mulberry timber, genus Morus, commonly used in the production of silk.
It resembles the grain and density of Elm, but is generally darker in colour, a very pleasing warm dark brown.
This particular table was probably used in a rural kitchen for food preparation, there are many signs of wear all round.
Very tactile and with a wonderful grain, the base with amazingly time worn stretchers, the drawer well used to hold cutlery etc.
The loose top, sitting in the base with dove tailed sledge supports, is left un-waxed, ie scrub topped, for many more years of usage ahead.
The table has had some repairs to the stretchers and new pads added, they were too worn to be kept.
Other than that a really special find, a one-of-a kind country table !!
