antique painted pine farmhouse box settle bench 1890

Item Ref

A rustic, decorative and well constructed farmhouse box settle / bench with storage.
Often found as part of a dowry to store linen and at times to accommodate visitors and children.
Traditionally styled, as found from Scandinavia to Southern Europe, with beautifully swept arms, solid panels in the exceptionally pretty back rest and fleur de lys supports in the side panels.
Found in the original first paint, a rich dark scrumble, now overpainted in a Gustavian style medium grey, Palladian 15, a Crown Histroric Range colour, left in a chalky matt finish.
This settle is a good example, it is also shorter than most, which is hard to find.
The lidded seat offers a large stow space, divided into two sections, with a pine prop to keep the lid open.
It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out.
No damage, no worm.
