Item Ref

A graceful and decorative antique pine settle / country bench, dating from the mid/end 19th century.
Typical rustic styled open paneled back rest with spindle and slat decoration.A small carved plaque in the centre, resembling an owl, but likely meant to be floral.
Gently sweeping armrests and straight solid legs, finished in a square pad.
Found in this style from Scandinavia to Hungary, often used in farmhouse kitchens to seat the workers or sleep the children.
This bench is in excellent structural condition, no repairs. The 2 planked seat is solid, the line between the planks is visible.
The paint is recent, a warm off white, a slightly distressed matt finish.
The bench has signs of ancient wood worm , but it has been thoroughly treated with a non toxic method and no activity has been detected.
