antique danish bornholm grandfather clock 1830

Item Ref

A rare and interesting Danish floor clock, made on the island of Bornholm around 1830.
Equivalent to the Swedish Mora clocks, built in pine and modelled on the then popular British grandfather clocks.
This clock is in original paint, traditional cream, dove grey and gilt, quite highly polished to impress the potential buyer. Some paint loss on the base, see photos 6, 7 and 8.
The clock works are in good order, have been checked and overhauled, working a 8 day system and hourly strike, quite accurately.
Original key and cast iron weights are present. The clock face is enamel, cream coloured, with hand painted black numbers and delicate brass fingers.
There is an additional interesting detail, a hand written record of dates and names on the inside of the long door, maybe a family record of sales, births, deaths etc.
1940mm high
535mm wide
215mm deep
