Description

A quirky example of a mid 19th century country pine settle in typical traditional style.
Found in original paint finish, a rare find.
Very muted old terracotta red paint, worn down in places, especially the seat, to a lovely mellow aged pine.
An unusual version of bench with swan neck arm rest on one side and a straight one on the other.
Presumably built for a special customer who wanted to sit the settle close to the wall in a corner.
The pleasing shape is typical of that period and this style ranges from Scandinavia to southern Europe.
Construction is solid, all connecting parts are tenon jointed, pegged additionally and stretchered.
The body is solid and stands well, straight legs front and back and very narrow in depth.
The bench has been clear waxed to preserve the lovely colours and buffed for a nearly matt appearance.
Dimensions:
1982mm wide
830mm high
400mm deep
457mm seat height
