A chunky rustic sycamore country table originating from northern Germany.
Dating from the end of the 19th century and found in most rural regions of the continent. Generally used for all kinds of rural tasks such as cutting of grains, vegetable preparation etc.
Most of these tables including this one have plenty of character and wear in the shape of cutting marks, dents and scratches.
Interesting construction with giant dove tailed supports which house the 4 peg legs. The one plank top is straight and one end shows a 4 inch long crack, which has been there a long time.
Some evidence of old woodworm holes .
This table has been cut to be used as a low bench or coffee table, also useful at the foot of the bed, under a window , as a hall table or behind the sofa.
